regexp vs indexOf

JavaScript performance comparison

Revision 8 of this test case created by Paul Grenier

Info

search is the better comparison to indexOf because it only needs one match where match finds all matches. Search also returns the same values as indexOf, match does not.

Preparation code

<script>
  var str = "hello world!";
</script>
<script>
Benchmark.prototype.setup = function() {
    regex = /world/;
    index = "world";
};
</script>

Test runner

Warning! For accurate results, please disable Firebug before running the tests. (Why?)
